Sicilian Pine Cone Green Decorated Base

Sicilian pine cone entirely handmade on the wheel in fine Sicilian ceramic, decorated by hand and embellished with shiny crystal-like enamel. Each bean was made and applied by hand. At the base traditional and precious Ornate Baroque decoration.

More than anything, Sicilian pine cones are widespread on our island. There is no area where they are not used to wish luck to newlyweds, express authority and spirituality by placing them on the doorposts of villas and gardens.

Sicilian pine cones are the symbol of a tradition that has been handed down to the present day, therefore a pride of Sicilian art. The use of pine cones in Sicily is lost in the mists of time and they are distinguished from any other type of decorative pine cone by the method with which they are made!

Each pine cone is made on the lathe, by hand. The cone, which forms the main body of the pine cone, and the base are formed on the lathe. After an initial quick drying, the beans are applied to the cone of the pine cone. This work is done by hand, one grain at a time. After forming a roll of clay, the craftsman uses only two fingers to apply the grain in a single movement. Thanks to the use of the fingertips, it gives the typical shape that perfectly imitates the grains of the real pine cone.
