White Pine Cone Lamp Sicilian Ceramic

Sicilian pine cone lamp in artistic ceramic made entirely by hand on the lathe, decorated by hand and embellished with shiny enamels. Each bean was made and applied by hand. The handcrafted pleated lampshade is cream white in colour.

Sicilian pine cones are widespread on our island. There is no area where they are not used to wish luck to newlyweds, express authority and spirituality by placing them on the doorposts of villas and gardens.

Sicilian pine cones are the symbol of a tradition that has been handed down to the present day, for which Sicilian art boasts pride. The use of pine cones in Sicily is lost in the mists of time and is distinguished from any other type of decorative pine cone due to the method with which they are made!

Each pine cone is made on the lathe, by hand. The core, which forms the main body of the pine cone, and the pine nuts are formed on the lathe. After an initial quick drying, the beans are applied to the core of the pine cone. This work is done by hand, one grain at a time. After forming a roll of clay, the craftsman uses only two fingers and applies the bean in one motion. Thanks to the use of fingertips with a typical shape that perfectly imitate the grains of the real pine cone.
